Frequently asked questions

Open coil springs are typically found at the lower priced end of the mattress market. The springs are wired together in a continuous loop and come in either 12.5g or 13.5g tensions with 12.5g being firmer.  They tend to be quite bouncy so for a couple sharing a bed there will be noticeable motion transference.  Pocket springs on the other hand are individually stitched together which prevents the bounciness and roll together for a couple sharing.  Pocket springs come in a variety of spring counts with 1000 being a medium support, 1500 is a firm support and 2000 the firmest. 2000 springs is the most springs you can have in one layer.  Higher quantities are then made up of mini or micro springs which then have a softening effect.

Any base will do the job providing it is assembled correctly and has a flat surface for your mattress to lie on.  Most mattress problems are caused by a damaged base which then damages the mattress as well.  Many bedframes have sprung wooden slats these days which is fine but will give a slight softening effect to the feel of your mattress.  Our bespoke bedframes all come with solid platform bases as standard and are generally more sturdy and better for heavier individuals.  Divan beds are also a platform base without slats, these can be more convenient as take up less space in your room and is easier to make the bed and turn the mattress.

All our products come with home assembly instructions, however we offer a two man assembly service if you require it.  Scale of charges are as follows:

Assembly & removal of packaging £50

Assembly only £40

Please be sure to add this to your order as additional time will need to be allocated for your delivery in order to complete the job.

Mainly for cleanliness.  Base on a couple sharing a bed weat about a pint every night and after 7 years enough liquid has gone through your mattress to fill two baths!  Not to mention the dead skin cells we shed every night which dust mites love!  A lot of this can be mitigated by using a good quality waterproof mattress protector, we recommend protectabed as they guarantee their products for 12 years and also against any staining caused to your mattress.

We provide a two man crew to your room of choice on weekdays between 10am – 5pm.

Memory foam is used for pressure relief in mattresses as well as various other applications such as seating and inner soles for shoes.  Mattresses are not usually all memory foam but made up of combinations of other fillings and support systems like springs or reflex foam. It has a softening effect on your mattress but beware!  Memory foam mattresses are not as breathable as other fillings used in mattresses and many people report them being uncomfortably warm to sleep on.  In addition, they tend to lose shape quicker than natural filled counterparts and you may find yourself needing to replace your mattress  sooner than you had hoped to.  Gel mattresses are an improvement to the traditional foams but still arent quite as good as natural fillings for heat regulation.

Latex is a natural product produced from the sap of the rubber tree.  Whipped into a foam this very durable material is used as a comfort layer in mattresses or as separate toppers.  They tend to be more expensive than memory foam counterparts but will generally hold shape better and last longer as well as naturally repelling nasties like dustmites that can cause allergies.
