Your mattress is the most important furniture item you will ever buy, yet it is so much more than that. Everything starts with a good night’s sleep and if you are not acheiving that, then here are some top tips to start your journey.
How old is your mattress?
After 7 years the average mattress has collected enough moisture to fill two baths. Sweat, skin cells and bacteria build up on an unprotected mattress, leading to deterioration of the cover and comfort fillings. If you would be embarassed if the neighbours saw your mattress, its probably a good time to think about replacing it.
Has your bed suddenly become uncomfortable?
Before you rush out to change your mattress, be sure to check your base first. Sudden discomfort can occur from dislodged slats or failure in the surface of a divan bed. This will filter through to your mattress instantly and feel different than usual. If you are unsure or unable to move your mattress to check, get in touch and we can inspect it for you in your home.
Looking to replicate your current mattress?
Take a note of the specifications, this is usually indicated on the mattress label and will show spring count, type of springs used and fillings in the comfort layer (memory foam, natural fillings etc) our Mattress Medics™ will be able to guide you to a current equivalent type mattress
Unsure what size you need?
In the UK the most common sizes are single, small double (queen), double, kingsize and superking size. When measuring your current bedframe for a new mattress, be sure to measure the inside of the frame, from edge to edge of the wooden slats and from the headend to the footend. Bedframes are usually built slightly bigger than the standard mattress sizes as the mattress sits inside the frame. Divan beds are designed to be the same size as the mattress, so for these types of bed measure from edge to edge.
